Three Albatross Infographics

Pacific Beach Coalition

  • Create a visually interesting way to educate the Pacific Beach Coalition audience about the organization’s 2020-2021 Habitat Hero, the Laysan Albatross. Work closely with an albatross expert Caren Loebel-Fried to include factual information about the species and their lifestyle. Help spread awareness about what currently threatens the albatross population all around the world.

The final deliverables will be three infographics focused on three categories: behaviors, habitat, and immediate threats.

 Typography

Final typographic choices were made based on the organization’s established branding and expectations for the business card. A sans serif typeface with bold letterforms best addressed the need for legibility.

 Color Palette

Color palette created based on coloration of the “habitat hero” being represented. Light, bright tones were chosen to increase contrast between the button and the clothing of the wearer.

Graphics

The illustration used in this button design was completely created by me, drawn based on a reference photograph of a real Mission Blue Butterfly.

 Design Iteration

The initial infographic mockups were created based on the assumption that all three information categories would be combined into one and displayed on one infographic. After much deliberation, the PBC communications team decided it would be best to split each category into its own separate infographic. At this point, I decided to restyle the infographic to better suit PBC’s branding and incorporate both photos and illustrations seamlessly.
